Welcome to Dancing Moons Artisan Woodturning
I spent a lot of my life in a very creative business, allowing me to have a forum where I could demonstrate and perform my creative side with the general public as well as my peers. This gave me tremendous satisfaction and fed my creative side, but a change of career put that creative side on the back burner for a number of years. There had always been a void inside of me since I changed my profession, nothing troublesome, just a sense of "an empty space". Then, some years ago, I took up classes in "Woodturning" and as soon as I placed the chisel in my hand, I had that sense that I had found a new way to become creative again and I started to fall in love with this beautiful art. I never have a set plan on what I'm going to make, I put the wood on the lathe and the work starts and at some stage, it starts to create its own form and shape directing me to certain directions and movements, and the end result is the end result! I try to keep my pieces simple and work towards showing the beautiful grain that is in the wood, allowing that to tell the story.
What I love about woodturning is that there are never any mistakes made, every piece of wood has an artistic beauty in it and sometimes it's my own intuitive self that may add touches of metal or leather to cracks in the wood, but always symmetrically to the piece .
All wood is kept in an environment that is in relationship with all that is Shamanic , been that all wood is smoked weekly with "Sacred Sag " and is treated with great respect for its origin and place of birth, wood is sourced as locally as possible and comes from a renewable source.
The structure of pieces will variate quite regularly, as I'm really interested in doing some more modern sculptures and carving design into them.
